Özyeğin University Faculty Dr. Mohammed Elamassie Attended IZPHOTECH 2023 As an Invited Speaker

Dr. Mohammed Elamassie, assistant professor at the Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department and the Executive Co-Director of the Center of Excellence for Optical Wireless Communications Technologies (OKATEM) at Özyeğin University, delivered a speech on the first day of the international photonics workshop “Talks on Photonics Science and Technology” (IZPHOTECH 2023), held at İzmir Institute of Technology on October 23-24, 2023, in observance of Day of Photonics. The event was organized by IZTECH-OPS, a chapter of Optica, a leading international organization dedicated to promoting advancements in the field of optics and photonics since 1916, in collaboration with the IEEE Photonics Society.

With Prof. Hasan Mandal, President of TÜBİTAK, among the opening speakers, the two-day workshop offered a rich program featuring presentations by distinguished scientists who showcased their research in the fields of photonics science and technologies. The presentations covered a diverse range of topics, including laser applications, fiber optic cables, and display technologies. In his talk, Dr. Elamassie emphasized that 40% of the world’s population still remains unconnected or under-connected, which motivates the deployment of non-terrestrial networks (NTNs). Noting that these networks are envisioned to realize truly global coverage for 6G and beyond, Dr. Elamassie also shared with participants key considerations and fundamental questions pertaining to these studies.
