Indispensable Construction Material: Concrete

As the Lifelong Learning Academy, we started a seminar series on different topics under the overarching theme of “Leadership in the Changing World” on the axis of current needs to open university’s scientific knowledge to the external world. Our seventh seminar “Indispensable Construction Material: Concrete” will be delivered by Dr. Lecturer Zeynep Başaran from our Department of Civil Engineering.

The seminar will address the following:

What is cement, cement-based material, or concrete? What are the production processes? How are cement-based materials positioned in the global economy and production? What are their economic, environmental, and social effects? Importance of sustainability in cement and concrete production (Concrete and Cement Sustainability Councils), the position of cement and concrete in the EU 2050 Goals (Greendeal 2019, UN Reports), innovative initiatives towards environmentally friendly cement and concrete production, sustainable cement production and cement-based materials research conducted at OzU.
