Özyeğin Üniversitesi
Orman Sk
Nişantepe Mahallesi, Çekmeköy, İstanbul 34794

Assistant Prof. Susan Rottmann will give an online speech titled, “Forging an Ethical Life: The Experience of German-Turkish Women Returning to Turkey” at the Center for European Studies at Harvard University on Thursday, January 27, at 20:00 local time in Turkey. Assistant Prof. Rottmann will talk about her book In Pursuit of Belonging, which was recently published by Berghahn Books as part of the “Anthropology of Europe” series. She will be accompanied by three distinguished discussants during the seminar.

Exploring the topic of social exclusion in her book In Pursuit of Belonging, Assistant Prof. Susan Rottmann shares the results of her comprehensive ethnographic research on German-Turkish women who returned to their homeland. Rottmann offers a closer look to wider repercussions of this experience and the stories of women as she points out the tensions and conflicts these women encounter in their day to day lives in the areas of family, gender, Islam, and education. In her study, Dr. Rottmann sheds a new light to the ethical values of Turkish women who migrated to Europe and then returned to their homeland.
