Title: It’s Complicated: Decision Tree Analysis in Psychology
Abstract: This talk provides a brief introduction to an analysis done with machine learning. During the talk, we examine three psychology publications showcasing the benefits of this analysis. The first paper shows the advantage of decision trees over logistic regression in a study examining personality and demographics for mammogram screening (N=474). The second paper examines nonresponse to assessments of future health and what factors are uncovered with this lack of response (N=2826). The third paper highlights how decision trees allowed a hidden relationship to emerge in a study of rejection sensitivity on mental well-being (N=232).
