Anti-Immigration Rhetoric in Flux: The Case of Turkey

Dear Students,

As part of its graduate seminar series, the IR Department invites you to a talk by Dr. Ezgi Elçi titled “Anti-Immigration Rhetoric in Flux: The Case of Turkey” on Thursday, March 2nd, 12.00-13.30, at Scola 460.  

Dr. Elçi will talk about party competition dynamics over the immigration issue in Turkey between 2011 and 2021 using the holistic grading method and the parliamentary group speeches of the top five party leaders. In this work, Dr. Elçi along with Dr. Deniz Şenol Sert and Dr. Evren Balta, has analyzed the tone and saliency of the migration issue to map the position of parties and illustrated how their positions changed over time.

Assist. Prof. Ezgi Elçi

Ezgi Elçi is an assistant professor in the Department of International Relations at Özyeğin University. He obtained his Ph.D. in the Department of Political Science and International Relations at Koç University. Previously, he was a visiting student researcher in the Center for the Study of Global Issues (GLOBIS) at the University of Georgia with the Fulbright grant. His research interests are on political behavior and political communication. His publications appeared in the British Journal of Political Science, European Political Science Review, Disasters, Southeast European and Black Sea Studies, and in edited volumes.
