Title: Fast Consumption in the Digital Era

Abstract: In this digital age, our lives are characterized by agitation and fast pace. With overabundant content to consume and less available time, media consumption has, too, mutated. Speed watching (i.e., watching video content at an accelerated speed) is the latest manifestation of the fast-living trend. Our research shows that speed-watching is a prevalent phenomenon that significantly influences individuals’ generosity with their time. Although speed-watching helps save time, it decreases one’s willingness to volunteer time in a following task. Specifically, it decreases intentions to donate time and increases preference for time-saving products, due to feeling rushed and hurried. We discuss the theoretical and managerial implications of this underexplored construct.
