MİTA IV Architectural Design Research National Symposium
The fourth edition of the Architectural Design Research National Symposium, which was first held in 2015, will take place within the framework of the 15th-year activities of Özyeğin University, under the thematic division of "The Future of Architectural Design Education: experience, performance, and speculation" on April 25-27, 2024, hosted by the Faculty of Architecture and Design of Özyeğin University.
Developments in scientific and technological fields, economic and ecological opportunities, crises, and vulnerabilities are giving rise to the evolving disciplines of the changing world. Researchers of the Architectural Design Research Symposium invite discussions on the future of architectural design education within this multifaceted transformation network. Will architectural design education be able to confront this transformation? Do we possess the competencies to meet the technology-oriented expectations of the new generation?
How will virtual reality, artificial intelligence, and neuroscience affect architectural design education? Do conventional methods still maintain their validity? An innovative, diversity-embracing, participatory educational environment simultaneously harbors complexities, contradictions, and threats. How does the media influence architectural design studios as an environment of infinite possibilities? What lies in the future of architectural design education? Is examining the past for research, or seeking the future for creating experimental possibilities-alternative pathways? Is holistic thinking or fragmentation required for dynamic, responsive, adaptable architectural design education?
How will architectural design education evolve to equip the professionals who will shape the future living spaces with the necessary knowledge and the ability to utilize this knowledge rationally to cope with visible/invisible situations they will encounter? Based on the view that change is inevitable in MİTA IV, it emphasizes the importance of change and invites researchers to contemplate on the change in architectural design education, questioning: what questions should we ask, what concepts should we think?
"How will we shape the future of architectural design education as an environment of experience-performance and speculation in the continuum of past-present and future?"
All conceptual, theoretical, and applied studies focusing on these topics are invited to the symposium. The sub-themes of the symposium and the topics open for discussion -not limited to these- are listed under titles such as system, discourse, tactics, alternatives, paradoxes.
