The award-winning films of the 14th Akbank Short Film Festival will be screened free of charge to university students at 40 universities in 21 cities across Turkey from April 2 to May 17...
Akbank Short Film Festival was designed to create a new platform for short films in Turkey. The festival has evolved into one of the pioneering events in this field over the past 14 years. Now, the award-winning films of the 14th Akbank Short Film Festival will be featured at 40 universities in 21 cities from Edirne to Van, Zonguldak to Elazığ, between April 2 and May 17.
HAPPINESS directed by Necip Çağhan Özdemir was honored with the the BEST NATIONAL FILM AWARD in the FESTIVAL SHORTS category following the evaluation of the National Competition Jury made up of Hazar Ergüçlü, actress, Onur Saylak, director, Hülya Uçansu, author, Coşar Kulaksız, photographer, and Derya Bigalı, Akbank Sanat Manager.
“ARIA” directed by Myrsini Aristidou won the BEST INTERNATIONAL FILM AWARD in the WORLD SHORTS category following the evaluation of the International Competition Jury made up of Ana Katz, director, Farah Zeynep Abdullah, actress, Hayet Benkara, Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) Programmer and Consultant, and Derya Bigalı, Akbank Sanat Manager.
Onur Yağız and Ayris Alptekin won the HONORABLE MENTION AWARD in the festival shorts category in recognition for their films “TOPRAK” and “ELEVATION DIFFERENCE”, respectively, while the HONORABLE MENTION AWARD went to Ru Kuwahata & Max Porter and Kaveh Mazaheri in recognition of their films “NEGATIVE SPACE” and “RETOUCH” , respectively.
Also, “TOR” written by Ragıp Türk was honored with the Akbank Short Film Forum Best Script Award in the Akbank Short Film Festival Script Competition, which was held for the second time this year to support films from the initial idea stage, following the evaluation of the jury made up of Feride Çetin, actress, Banu Bozdemir, film critic, and Mehmet Eryılmaz, director and scriptwriter. In the “Script” category, the Honorable Mention Award was given to Fırat Özeler in recognition of his movie “ZİYAFET”.
The “Audience Award” was presented to Hasan Ali Kılıçgün for his film “3,5 Liras” as a result of the votes from cinema-aficionados following the festival with great interest.
The winners of the 14th Akbank Short Film Festival were selected from among 1,342 short film applications from across 65 countries. Now the award-winning films will be screened free of charge at universities during the “Award-Winning Films at Universities” event.
