Touring Istanbul with Tanpınar

Özyeğin University Literature Club organizes an Istanbul tour accompanied with the novel Huzur by Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar in collaboration with the School of Arts and Sciences.

The event will take place on October 31, 2010. Participants will commemorate the protagonist Mümtaz’s journey around Istanbul in the Ahmed Hamdi Tanpınar’s novel Huzur by reenacting the tour he has taken and reciting the relevant chapters from the book. Ahmet Ümit, author, will also accompany Özyeğin students and staff during some of the reciting.

A similar event is held each year at Bloomsday Festival in Dublin for the Irish author James Joyce. Participants retrace the steps of Leopold Bloom, the protagonist of  James Joyce’s Ulysses, around Dublin. The festival is also marked with a series of music and literature events.
