System on Chip Architectures for Home Networks
Abstract:
Most of even lower-cost consumer electronics devices today incorporate many technologies which as recently as a decade ago did not exist, or required dedicated high-cost platforms to implement. This presentation will introduce some examples of such advanced integrated platforms used for home IP networks, outlining the functional challenges involved in the implementation of devices such as Set-top Boxes and WiFi Access Points. Various approaches to these challenges, such as DSP and ASIC-accelerated SoC designs used by chipset developers, will be discussed along with their respective pros and cons.
Bio:
Eren Soyak received the B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Northwestern University, Evanston, IL, in 2003, 2006, and 2011, respectively. In 2003, he joined Ingenient Technologies, Rolling Meadows, IL, where until 2009 he developed embedded real-time video communication systems for a variety of applications including cellular telephony, handheld media, television broadcasting, surveillance, law enforcement, and defense. In 2011 Eren joined AirTies Wireless Networks, Istanbul, Turkey, where he is currently the Director of the Systems Engineering and Research group, responsible for the design of consumer electronics for wireless home networks. His current research interests include efficient wireless communications, context-specific video processing and embedded algorithms.
