Semester Break Maker Camp for High Schoolers

SEMESTER BREAK MAKER CAMP (January 28 -February 1, 2019)

The Semester Break Maker Camp will take place on the Çekmeköy Campus of Özyeğin University. The camp will last for five days, and participants will stay on campus during the camp. In addition to maker sessions, the maker camp will offer participants a rich array of social activities and group work opportunities. Participants will have the opportunity to experience a comprehensive training program that covers a large spectrum of topics from coding a website to creating 2D and 3D CAD drawings, and  printing their own designs using laser and 3D printers to designing and building electrical circuits. Participants will keep the training kits and finished projects.  In addition to sessions aimed to help participants understand digital transformation, the camp program also allows participants to have a taste of university life, enjoy the perks of being on a university campus, and relax with a rich array of social activities. Members of FİBA Holding and Özyeğin University are offered a 20 percent discount off the fees above. In order to be eligible for the discount, members of FİBA Holding and Özyeğin University must send an email from their Fiba or Özyeğin email addresses and register for the camp.

Accommodation: Participants will stay in 4-person rooms in the Özyeğin University Guest House on the Çekmeköy Campus. Participants may check in their rooms on Sunday afternoon, January 27, 2019.

During the Website Coding session, participants will learn the basics of HTML/CSS, and how to use Bootsrap infrastructure to design and build their own resume webpage. The Modelling and Prototyping session will teach participants how to create 2D and 3D CAD drawings using the Fusion360 program, and print their own models using laser cutters or 3D printers. Each participant will have the opportunity to design and customize their own products and have a taste of the prototyping process.

During the Arduino session, participants will learn how to program an Arduino board in C language, read data from sensors, and use data to activate a motor or to turn on an LED. Courses will be practical and experiential. Participants will manufacture their own designs using 3D printers, install a board and sensors in their designs, and leave the camp with their finished project. During the Electronical Prototyping, participants will use KiCad, an open source electronics design automation suite, and learn how to draw a circuit diagram, and draw a printed circuit. Participants will also learn how to transfer the circuit design to the board via heat transfer, how to create circuit paths, drill holes on the board, and solder the components.
