Diabetes and ageing population is growing around the world, especially in Europe and USA. Unfortunately, these two population group are either going through amputation or losing some motor functions of their lower limbs. Additionally people with muscle weaknesses are also in need of assistive devices for their activities in daily life (ADL). Therefore, design of assistive devices for lower limb prosthetics and exoskeletons has taken great attention by the researchers and engineers recently, especially the developments in actuation and robotics technology. This is also due to the fact that the assistance to the lower limb for ADL is a highly challenging problem for the engineering design field. In this presentation the most prominent lower limb prosthesis and exoskeleton designs will be presented with special interest to the research studies of the presenter.
